Katalemwa Cheshire Home

Vision
Katalemwa Cheshire Home strives for a world where people with disabilities live dignified and productive lives.

Mission
Katalemwa Chesire Home promotes access to quality rehabilitation and social services for persons with disabilities, especially children and youth. Katalemwa Chesire Home uses both centre-based and community-based Inclusive Development approaches grounded in rights-based programming and collaborates with families and community structures to achieve its goals.

Main activities
(1) Community health program: Village Health Teams support families with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, providing guidance and practical advice on communication, motor skills, nutrition, and play. These teams visit homes in remote areas, helping children with disabilities participate more fully in society. (2) Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) offer parents, especially single mothers, a communal savings pool and training in income-generating activities, providing emotional and financial support to balance caregiving and livelihood while covering unexpected costs. (3) Child protection program: Village Health Workers and parents are trained to safeguard children with neurodevelopmental disabilities from abuse by recognising neglect and educating families on children’s rights. Through home visits, Village Health Workers address harmful situations and empower parents with practical tools to protect their children.
